Graham came into some money recently. Sunnybrook's attempt at reimbursing me $5 for a fieldtrip went a little awry. It came home in an envelope with Graham's name on it. And of course Graham thought it was his since he recognized his name! Well, we couldn't just take "his" money. So, Graham had $5. He woke up from his nap last week and begged to go to Toys R Us. So begins our conversation with this little guy about money. He took his cash, and we had quite a few conversations about what he can afford, what he can't afford, etc. We started in an aisle with giant cars and tracks, and he quickly realized he couldn't afford a $50 item. So we ended up in the hot wheels aisle - which is why we actually came in the first place. There was a sale - buy one get one free - and he decided on three cars. He spent $2.72 and he still has some money left over.
That night Kyle and I had a "meeting" about starting an allowance and how we work on that with him. So hard to believe he's already old enough for this!
