Tanner's turn for friends camp!

Day one of friends camp - he slipped on an old tree in the water and gashed his knee pretty badly.  He ended up with flesh eating bacteria in his knee, had emergency surgery, massive antibiotics (that we couldn't get at the normal pharmacy - had to take them for a month or two).  And knee recovery ultimately ended up being about 6-8 weeks.  We have a new respect for dirty river water, vibrio, and our sweet boy and his precious life.

He had the sweetest friends come over to chat with him on the porch, bring him snacks and games as he had to lay low for a while.

The day after the accident we didn't yet realize what had happened.  It was our day to host Friends Camp, and he still wanted to try Adventure Park.

Busch Gardens opened again!!  I snagged tickets as quickly as I could!

Never seen that cougar here before....

Cracking open a fossil

Trying a new ice cream store

Orientation at a new school - we made a super quick decision this summer to apply to a private school that was planning on going back to school face to face all five days of the week.  (Virtual school is a complete disaster.) It happened so quickly, and we are BEYOND grateful they had space for all four kids (we got in in the very knick of time).  We were heartbroken to leave Kingston having had such an incredible experience there.  Our community there is just beautiful.  However - all four kids LOVED Cape Henry the first week of school and don't want to go back to Kingston. I'm so grateful.

Mrs. Desai - Claire's AMAZING kindergarten teacher!

Traditional first day of school snack - warm chocolate chip cookies

It doesn't get any better than this - dolphins at dusk on the water

YUM!!

An odd swim season for sure - but super low key and easy.

The boys learned to surf this summer!!  Seth Brody Surf Camp is amazing!!
